Thursday I got Chase up for the day and knew immediately he wasn't going to school. He had a fever of 101.3 (up to 100.3 is normal for a child his age). So we figured it may not be anything to worry about, he didn't seem out of sorts, so we just kept him home. Then on Thursday evening one of our new mom friends called and informed us that one of the kids in our daycare class had been diagnosed with RSV, so I decided enough fooling around - we'd take him in on Friday.
Friday morning I head off to C.A.P. and get him checked out. They tested him for RSV and it came back negative (WooHoo). They gave him an oral steroid since they thought he was croupy and we went on our merry little way. By 3pm his fever ad broken and he seemed to be in really good spirits. That continued through the evening and we thought for sure we were in the clear.
Then yesterday morning he had a fever again...nothing awful, 101.8. We gave him Tylenol and he got lots of rest. Then around 5 suddenly he was warm enough to fry an egg! I took his temp and it had spiked to 104.4!!!!! NOT GOOD!!! After a call to the pediatrician to confirm that Tylenol and a tepid bath was the way to go, it started coming down, but they said we should come in today to have him checked out (thinking that perhaps by now he had an ear infection).
Well, he does not have an ear infection...no, that would be the GOOD option. Sure enough...almost 1 year to the day (1.22.08) he has been diagnosed with RSV - AGAIN! All I want to do is scream "IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!! We've already had this! We had pneumonia too last year! I don't want my baby to be sick! He was sent to Yale in Decemeber! THIS ISN'T FAIR!!!!!!!"
OK, tempur tantrum over. It's not fair, but the good news is his oxygen counts today were 100. They think by Tuesday this will have run it's course. He is an incredibly happy baby who is handling his treatments like a champ and he is remaining in really good spirits. So we just need to ride it out and hope that we have already seen the worst of it this time around...
